SUDBURY – MPP Jamie West (Sudbury) stands proudly with Laurentian University to ensure Government support for northern post-secondary institutions:
"The CCAA could and should have been avoided,” said West. “I regularly meet with Laurentian University, and with the unions, workers, clubs and students. I am relieved and happy to see that the new administration is working so diligently to rebuild stronger, and to see that half of the Ontario auditors’ directives have now been implemented. As a proud LU graduate, I remain steadfast in supporting Laurentian and its community in any way I can.”
MPP West also noted “Overall, there remains a longstanding funding crisis which highlights systemic issues in our post-secondary sector. Decades of Liberal and Conservative governance have left Ontario’s post-secondary institutions burdened with the highest tuition fees in Canada and the lowest provincial funding. Laurentian, often referred to as the 'canary in the coal mine,' underscores the urgent need for stable, equitable support for northern universities. The Ontario NDP understands the value of this institution and we will continue to advocate for a strong and sustainable future for Laurentian University."
